Frome Independent

If you live within an hour of Frome and haven’t yet visited the Frome Independent Market, what are you even doing with the first Sunday of every month. Admittedly, I was guilty of this myself for far too long! I’d heard such good things about Frome, but I think it’s one of those things where you don’t know quite how good it is until you go along. There was such a great range of different artists, food, antiques, street food and more.

I wanted to share some of the awesome artists I met when I visited.

Roo Phalloi ring

Roo makes historically inspired jewellery, like this awesome penis pinkie ring! She creates her designs in wax, and also uses the lost wax process to get them cast in metal. She’s also SUUUUPER friendly, and really happy to chat about her inspirations and everything. I was in a bit of a rush because I arrived late, but I bought one of her Nike pendants through her website, and I love it.

Gorgeous hand woven pouch

Gorgeous hand woven pouch

Brough’s handwoven homewares and accessories caught my eye with their amazing yet subtle colour palettes. Incredible natural fibres like British wools, organic cottons and raw silks are combined by hand in simple seeming patterns that I’m sure are harder to create than they look. Each item had a really tactile quality that made me want to pick it up. I think I ended up touching everything on display! These would be perfect as a gift for the person who has everything.

Fizz goes pop acrylic sign

Fizz goes pop had the brightest and funnest (yes it’s a word!) stall I saw. Awesome brightly coloured and mirrored acrylic combined in graphic jewellery and amazing signs. You can get bespoke signs made with any combination of words and colours. The only tough part is choosing what to say.

May Hofman stacking rings

May Hofman plays with geometric shapes to create simple talismanic jewellery, that you can build into intricate, personalised stacks. I have to be honest, when I saw a ring alone, I didn’t think it was that impressive, but then talking to May and seeing how they could be stacked really changed my mind. They look great all together, and the nature of it means that you can mix and match exactly what you want.

Laura Holden Studio velvet lion

I saw Laura Holden on the hill at the suitcase section of the market, and her cushions and textiles were just so charming I couldn’t walk past. I loved their expressions, plus, they were all so soft. ALSO she had a really great pennant at the front of her stand.
