Bespoke triple skull ring

I recently had the opportunity to work on a bespoke commission based on my triple skull ring, but with a whole bunch of added details to really make it full of meaning.

Dave got in touch with me, having seen my work at the Bristol Goth and Alternative market, and he was after a new thumb ring to reflect his love of music. He asked for me to add some subtle references to the bands that meant a lot to him, Depeche Mode and Soft Cell. I chatted with him and then sketched out a few possibilities for the sort of thing I could do.

After chatting through the options with Dave, we decided to carve the Depeche Mode logo into the back of one of the outward facing skulls, and the Soft Cell eye motif into the back of the other. This was complimented by a rose carved into the back of the ring band.

I like to share the progress of any bespoke work as I think it’s exciting to see an idea come into fruition. Once we were both happy with the wax ring, I sent it off to be cast into silver. The carvings in the back of the skulls really came to life when it had be cast.

The end result is a super personal ring, full of symbolism and meaning, along with a whole bunch of delicious texture.

I kept the texture on the outside of the ring, but polished up the inside to a high shine to make it super comfortable to wear.

Dave was after a dark, oxidised finish. So once I was happy with how the ring looked, I added the oxidisation to create that blackened look.

Hannah was superb, great communication, even sending videos of the progress. I’ve ended up with a fantastic piece jewellery.
