The Bespoke jewellery process
The first step is to get in touch via email (hello@slabjewellery.com) or Instagram DM (@slab_jewellery). We’ll talk about what you’re looking for, perhaps a ring or necklace, and how much it might cost – including the design, your choice of recycled silver or gold and any precious stones.
Prices for bespoke jewellery varies: I try to match the main SLAB Jewellery collections as much as possible, but often bespoke commissions can be a little more expensive due to extra design elements and production time. I’ll always try to adjust designs and materials to make your handmade jewellery work within your budget.
Ring sizing
A lot of the bespoke orders I make are rings. If you’re ordering a bespoke ring, it’s important to get the sizing right because the nature of the designs means they can be difficult to re-size. Custom made rings are made to your specifications, and are always non refundable.
If you’re unsure of your ring size the best thing to do is to visit a local jeweller who would be happy to measure for you. Alternatively you can measure your finger using a piece of paper and a ruler: check out my ring sizing guide for step-by-step instructions. If needed, I can send you a plastic ring-sizer, although the best option is still to visit a jewellery shop.
Designing bespoke jewels
After our initial conversation I’ll sketch a few ideas and share examples of previous bespoke jewellery designs. Once we’re both confident in the concept, I’ll start to carve a wax design, which I’ll share pictures of as it develops. When you’re happy with the wax version, I’ll take your deposit payment and send the design off to be cast into your chosen recycled precious metal.
Casting and finishing
Each one-of-a-kind jewellery design is cast by my trusted casting house in recycled metal: silver, gold-plated or solid 9kt gold - it’s up to you. I then hand-finish each bespoke piece using traditional goldsmithing methods which vary depending on which finish you choose: brushed, oxidised, or high-shine. The finished piece of jewellery is then sent to be hallmarked with the SLAB Jewellery maker’s mark, along with official hallmarks that are a guarantee of quality.

Postage
The final stage is to package up your bespoke piece in FSC certified and recycled packaging and send it to you, using a recorded delivery service. Please note that due to their unique nature bespoke jewellery designs are non-returnable. I hope that you will wear and enjoy your new SLAB Jewellery – treasure forever.
